Art assignment # 9: Off

If you look to the left of the screen in the second picture, the little moving dots are ants…The things you notice when making gifs :P

Don’t stare for too long it will probably give you a headache!

we know a few people who would probably benefit from the how to train your dragon series.

hagrid. we’re talking about hagrid.

it had to be drawn.

Summary of my TFIOS movie day today.

First half of the movie all of us were smiling and laughing a ton and all was dandy in the theater… and then the second half begun, shame went out the door, and we wept like children. I wish someone could have taken an actual photo of us during the first then second half… it should just happen in all TFIOS showings and they should post it outside the theater room to purchase like they do after you go on a roller coaster.
It was extremely faithful to the book, and while I have to pick books over movies, I really enjoyed the movie. I thought all the actors did a wonderful job becoming their characters, and I would certainly recommend the movie to anyone who may be on the fence about wanting to go see it! It’s always fun to see books come to life, but sad in that it irreversibly changes the book for you in some way. In the case of TFIOS though, I don’t really feel as heavy a sense of change and really I feel in some areas it makes you think about things you hadn’t thought of in the book. There was one aspect of the book I had hoped to see more of in the movie because it’s something many books and movies are reluctant to go into, but I was glad that in one powerful scene we got a glimpse of it. I won’t say more than that because spoilers are no fun.
Just a reminder for those who plan to see the movie, please just remember to be respectful of the other people in the theater. Don’t talk about what happens in the movie during the previews, don’t be loudly crying on purpose to make your friends laugh, and bring tissues so you won’t have to attempt to sniff up your mucus. And of course have a good time!

Something I sketched a while ago as a shirt idea or maybe for little prints or phone cases or bookmarks OR something… posting the sketch so it hopefully motivated me to finish it!
was trying to draw something that encompasses some of the big parts of nerdfighteria- Hank’s music, John’s books, decreasing world suck/ p4a, vlogbrothers videos, and us the nerdfighters and our communities.
I’m open to suggestions if you guys think something would look better different on here!

Today is World Turtle Day, and I think its an opportune moment to acknowledge that many turtle species around the globe aren’t doing well. The furry endangered species get a lot of attention, and its easy to forget the less cuddly critters like turtles who too are integral parts of their ecosystems.
I drew three of the many critically endangered turtle species here- the leatherback, Indochinese Box Turtle, and painted terrapin.

The Art Assignment Episode 8: Walk on It

Tag teamed on this one, my dog’s contribution is the first of the larger images. I let it dry up a bit then I added more paint and walked on it. At first glance it doesn’t look too interesting but up close there are interesting bits like the leaf that wound up stuck to the paint, and this odd pattern on the last photo which somehow emerged.

Don’t worry fellow animal lovers, the paint was nontoxic and I strategically did this assignment on his bath day so he got his bath right after (: His commission price was paid in chicken! My first collab with a dog…

I plan to paint something on my new blue canvas, stay tuned!

Just some little warm up doodles to try and get me back into the art swing- been too busy with finals to draw much. Feeling pretty rusty. Each except for the dino done in two minutes or less using http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/animal-drawing/

The Art Assignment #7 What, How, Where
A sort of response/ inspired by piece to @blackandwhitenights's art assignment. She turned hers into hipster photo quotes, and I thought it would be fun to do mine as a motivational poster. I agree with her thought, it would be fun if someone mistook it for real scrolling through their tumblr, trying to ponder some deeper meaning.
That is what I enjoyed about this art assignment and browsing others assignments so far, many are funny and it was fun to do ( I wish someone could have taken a picture of me trying to take a picture of myself playing music on a bike intently… it was quite the feat). I’ll probably be doing more of these :)

The Art Assignment # 6: Psychological Landscape

Sorry for all the pics, but thought I’d share the process for this. I started out drawing a normal landscape type drawing, then I thought it may be cool to take pictures of things that aren’t typically landscapes and draw on top of them- explains the first image being a photo (of my dogs fur).  I wanted no predetermined outcome for this drawing, only to draw whatever I thought of as I went. After the initial creature drawing I ditched the actual photo but used the feel of it as inspiration for the mood of the piece. It a bit rougher and more loose than my usual style. I really enjoyed just sort of letting my mind takeover and not thinking too much as I drew. I’m loving that The Art Assignment is pushing me to draw things differently than I usually would.

The task was to “create a ground on your picture plane and populate the ground with figures and give them human-like characteristics.” The characteristic I went with is the ability to bring light to the dark- interpret as you like (:

I haven’t watched much of any anime but semi recently watched a studio ghibli and the animation was so fantastic I had to watch another. So today I watched Spirited Away. I can see why people like it so much, it’s beautifully made and it was entertaining. The little soot were adorable I had to do a very quick sketch of them.

The Art Assignment 5: Quietest Place

I needed a little getaway today so I decided to do the fifth art assignment and find the quietest place I could. I intended to go for a walk but it was so windy I knew I’d never find quiet that way- I went for a climb instead to reach my quietest place (uggs on for some rattlesnake protection). It was certainly worth the extra effort. I hadn’t realized the nasturtium were blooming, and the angle of the sun lit them up like tiny fires in a desert of green. It was nice to take a second to enjoy bits of nature including some beautiful spider webs. I was joined by some hummingbirds who gave me quizzical looks as they aren’t used to seeing people on their turf. The hillside blocked the wind noise, and I had just the quiet reprieve I needed.
